JODI’S GARDEN

PROFILE

I want to work at the garden because: It’s great work experience and I enjoy gardening and the atmosphere!

Two of my personal goals for working at the Dallas Youth Garden this summer are:

  1. To get to know all of the other interns

  2. To grow something new

Two things I hope to learn from working at the Dallas Youth Garden are:

GARDEN PROJECTS

1.Project One

Question/Problem(s) Proposed: What is the purpose of fish fertilizer?

Answer(s) I found: All-natural fish fertilizers are processed differently in the soil, because they contain nutrients that must first be digested by organisms, such as bacteria, earthworms and fungi, before they are available for plant roots to use.2 All of this microbial activity enhances the strength and vigor of plants by increasing the amount of organic matter in the soil.

2. Recipe

Name: Pico De Gallo

Vegetable Used: Tomatoes

Ingredients: 3 lb Tomatoes, onion to taste, jalepeño to taste, cumin to taste

Steps to Make it: sweat diced tomatoes, then add rest of ingredients diced, then cumin

Opinion: absolutely delicious

3. Another Project

Problem: Bottom Rot

Solution: The plant is lacking calcium, therefore calcium additives helps the plant keep from suffering from bottom rot

Test/Activity: add a calcium additive to your problem tomato plant

Results: Bottom rot was eviscerated
