JODI’S GARDEN

PROFILE

I want to work at the garden because: I have worked there before, and I thought it was fun, and a good opportunity.

Two of my personal goals for working at the Dallas Youth Garden this summer are:

1. Try not to lose any plants

2. Make new friends

Two things I hope to learn from working at the Dallas Youth Garden are:

1. New ways to continue sustainable gardening

2. Effective ways of caring for plants.

I think my biggest challenge will be: Keeping up on weeding

My favorite vegetable or fruit is: Cauliflower

I hope to contribute this to the garden this year:

GARDEN PROJECTS

1.Project One

Question/Problem(s) Proposed: How do plants rebuild and/or heal themselves?

Answer(s) I found: Cells can mend the wall of the plant and the inside of the stalk, by bonding and creating a new wall.

URL Reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3198324/

2. Recipe

Name: Zucchini pasta with homemade pesto

Vegetable Used: Zucchini

Ingredients: Zucchini (julienned), seasoning of choice, pesto sauce (basil, nutmeg, garlic, olive oil, etc.)

Steps to Make it: Fry up the Julienned Zucchini, season it, put the sauce in. Add a meat of choice or eat alone

Opinion: It was delicious!

3. Another Project

Problem: Why are food banks important?

Solution: Food banks are important because peopel in need of food are able to get nutritious meal for themselves and family!

Test/Activity: We went to the town resource center and got to pack a food box for someone.

Results: He was extremely grateful and excited to be given something he was in need of

Communication: Food banks can save the day, and help tons of people in need.
